Mindful Chair - Mindfulness and health promotion in everyday university life

Mindful Chair was developed as part of the seminar "Prevention concepts". The starting point was the University Health Report (UHR), which showed that the mental health of students in particular still has room for improvement. The aim of the project is to promote Wellbeing, stress reduction and mindfulness in everyday student life and thus contribute to a health-promoting learning and working environment.

The concept is aimed at students and lecturers who spend a large part of their day sitting in lectures, seminars, libraries or at their desks. Mindful Chair combines ergonomic sitting with simple mindfulness and movement exercises. Through conscious awareness of breathing and posture, concentration, mental balance and Wellbeing can be strengthened. At the same time, the concept helps to prevent tension, reduce stress and integrate more mindfulness into learning and teaching.

A central component of Mindful Chair are short, low-threshold units of chair yoga and mindfulness exercises that can be easily integrated into everyday university life and courses. Just a few minutes of conscious movement and relaxation can help to increase the ability to concentrate, promote Wellbeing and create a balance to the often sedentary study routine.

Promoting health directly in the lecture hall

How can short exercise and relaxation sessions support students in their everyday university life? In our information event, we will introduce the Mindful Chair concept and show how mindfulness and movement exercises can be implemented directly in the lecture hall. Participants will gain practical insights into the methods of chair yoga and learn how just a few minutes of movement and conscious relaxation can contribute to greater concentration, Wellbeing and balance in everyday student life.
