Dear students,
We are a team of students who have been trained as student first aiders for mental health. Through the "Mental Health First Aid" training, we want to create an important contact point from students for students and, as the first point of contact, make a significant contribution to early recognition, education and connection to a professional help system.
You can contact us if you are looking for advice on a specific topic, feel overwhelmed or simply want to talk to someone in confidence. We offer you a sympathetic ear and support you in sorting out your thoughts and gaining a little more clarity. If necessary, we can provide information on mental illnesses and health problems and can refer you to professional contact points. Our consultation hours are open and confidential, i.e. we are bound to secrecy.
Feel free to send us an email to campusplus-mhfa-ld(at)rptu.de or drop by during our consultation hours. You can find out where and when you can find us in the green box under Facts.
We look forward to seeing you!
Would you like to become part of our team?
Very cool - then this information is for you!
In order to actively participate in the MHFA project at the Landau campus, you need to have completed the training to become an MHFA first aider. You can find out exactly what MHFA is, where it originally comes from and what the exact training content looks like here. In addition to the option of completing the training as a private individual, there is also the possibility of attending it as part of an in-house block seminar directly at RPTU. In this case, the training costs are covered by the Center for Sport, Health and Wellbeing, i.e. you do not have to pay anything for the training yourself. The training takes place over two full days. On completion, you will be sent a short online test (single choice) to review what you have learned. This is conducted in open-book format, i.e. you are allowed to use aids. If you fail the test, you can retake it. Once you have your official certificate in your hands, you can get started.
The next round of training will take place on 22.01. AND 29.01.2025 (both 9 am - 5 pm) in Landau. The first team meeting will take place on 19.02.2025 (4 pm). Attendance is required on all three days!
You have the opportunity to apply for this until 15.12.2024. Send us a short letter (1/2 -1 A4 page) in which you briefly introduce yourself and your motivation for the MHFA project. Please send it to the following e-mail address: campusplus-mhfa-ld(at)rptu.de. We value diversity and therefore welcome all applications, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin or disability/impairment.
We would like you to...
- you have the capacity to actively contribute to the team for at least one semester.
- you are motivated to help make the way we deal with the topic of mental health on campus more open.
- you show an open-minded, appreciative and unbiased attitude towards the issues that students seeking advice bring with them.
IMPORTANT: The MHFA training is offered against the background of a subsequent voluntary activity in the team. In order to record certain points for this, each person will sign a binding agreement before starting the training. This agreement regulates points such as confidentiality, active participation and assumption of costs.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send them to the email above(campusplus-mhfa-ld(at)rptu.de ).
We look forward to receiving your application!

FAQs
The probability of suffering from a mental illness in the course of a lifetime is currently around 28% (cf. DGPPN, 2022). In Germany, this corresponds to around 18 million people.
75% of all those affected develop the first signs of a mental illness before the age of 24 (see Irrsinnig menschlich e.V.). It can therefore be assumed that a large number of students already start their studies with mental stress and that students also develop corresponding complaints during the course of their studies.
With Student First Aiders for Mental Health, we want to create a contact point for students by students and counteract mental stress. Early professional support can significantly strengthen mental health.
You can find the exact dates of our consultation hours here.
Consultation hours can be found in the consultation hours overview on our homepage and on the CampusPlus notice board in the atrium (yellow entrance).
For consultation hours by appointment (by e-mail), we will arrange a location together.
As a rule, you can freely choose your interview partner. In this case, please write an e-mail to campusplus-mhfa-ld(at)rptu.de with your respective request. Here you will find profiles of the first responders, with their respective degree programmes and their personal experiences in this field.
No! The first aiders are primarily students who have completed the Mental Health First Aid program. As part of the Mental Health First Aid program, students have acquired basic knowledge about mental disorders and, building on this, have learned specific first aid measures for developing mental health problems and acute mental crises. However, they are not trained psychologists or therapists and therefore cannot make diagnoses or offer therapeutic treatments, but refer people to professional and trained counseling centers if necessary.
We have an open ear for concerns of all kinds. Whether you have a specific concern or just need someone to talk to. Write us an email or come to one of our office hours.
You are welcome to contact us by email or simply drop by during our weekly consultation hours. If you send us an email, a team member will reply so that you can arrange a suitable appointment together. You can also write to us if, for example, you would like more information on a specific topic without the need for a personal meeting.
There are always 1-2 team members on site for the weekly consultation hour. You can choose whether you would like to talk to both or just one person. In the conversation itself, it is entirely up to you how much you want to share and also whether you would like any advice at all or whether you would just like to talk about something without any specific goal. Everything that is said will be treated confidentially and will not be made public. The only exception is if there is a possibility that you could directly harm yourself or other people or if you tell us that this is the case with another person. We would then call in external help.
Mutual cooperation at eye level is very important to us during the conversation. You yourself are always the professional for your issues. At the end of the meeting, you will decide together whether you would like to make another appointment or not.
