Dear students,
We are a team of students who have been trained as student first aiders for mental health. Through the "Mental Health First Aid" training, we want to create an important point of contact from students for students and, as the first point of contact, make a significant contribution to early detection, education and connection to a professional help system.
You can contact us if you are looking for advice on a specific topic, feel overwhelmed or simply want to talk to someone in confidence. We offer you a sympathetic ear and support you in sorting out your thoughts and gaining a little more clarity. If necessary, we can provide information on mental illnesses and health problems and can refer you to professional contact points. Our consultation hours are open and confidential, i.e. we are bound to secrecy.
Feel free to send us an email to campusplus-mhfa-ld(at)rptu.de or drop by during our consultation hours. You can find out where and when to find us under Facts.
We look forward to seeing you!
Would you like to become part of our team?
Very cool - then this information is for you!
In order to actively participate in the MHFA project at the Landau campus, it is necessary that you have completed the training to become an MHFA first aider (ZI-Mannheim). This training takes place regularly (usually once a semester) at both RPTU campuses. The training costs are covered, i.e. you do not have to pay anything for the training yourself. The training takes place all day (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) on two days.
The following training content awaits you:
- Mental health in Germany (what is it actually?, frequencies etc.)
- First aid for mental health
- Various disorders and illnesses (depression, anxiety disorders, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, ...)
- Certification after completion of a short online test (open book) by the ZI Mannheim. If the test is not passed, it may be repeated.
The next training round will take place on 07.05.2026 AND 13.05.2026 (both 9-17 o'clock) in Landau. These two dates are mandatory.
Following the training, you will have the opportunity to get involved in our volunteer MHFA team at the Landau campus. We value diversity and welcome everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, nationality, ethnic and social background or disability/impairment.
A first team meeting will take place on 28.05.2026 (6 pm, Landau campus). There you will learn everything you need to know about MHFA activities, our tasks and have the opportunity to ask questions. We cordially invite you to attend!
There are only a limited number of places available for students for each training round. Students who would like to take part in the MHFA training can introduce themselves by sending a short letter to campusplus(at)rptu.de. The letter should include:
- Name, field of study and location, as well as your RPTU ID.
- Motivation (2-3 sentences), strengths, what you are looking forward to, why do you want to become an MHFA first aider?
If you have any questions, please feel free to send them to the email above.
We look forward to hearing from you!

FAQs
The probability of suffering from a mental illness in the course of a lifetime is currently around 28% (cf. DGPPN, 2022). In Germany, this corresponds to around 18 million people.
75% of all those affected develop the first signs of a mental illness before the age of 24 (see Irrsinnig menschlich e.V.). It can therefore be assumed that a large number of students already start their studies with mental stress and that students also develop corresponding complaints during the course of their studies.
With Student First Aiders for Mental Health, we want to create a contact point for students by students and counteract mental stress. Early professional support can significantly strengthen mental health.
You can find the exact dates of our consultation hours here or on Instagram @campusplusld.
The fixed office hours usually take place in the study room (green staircase, top right) or in the DOCK (sports field). You can find this in the current post on Instagram or in the overview above.
For consultation hours by appointment (by e-mail), we will work out a location together or connect online.
As a rule, you can freely choose your interview partner. In this case, please write an e-mail to campusplus-mhfa-ld(at)rptu.de with your respective request. Here you will find profiles of the first responders, with their respective degree programmes and their personal experiences in this field.
No! The first aiders are primarily students who have completed the Mental Health First Aid program. As part of the Mental Health First Aid program, students have acquired basic knowledge about mental disorders and, building on this, have learned specific first aid measures for developing mental health problems and acute mental crises. However, they are not trained psychologists or therapists and therefore cannot make diagnoses or offer therapeutic treatments, but refer people to professional and trained counseling centers if necessary.
We have an open ear for concerns of all kinds. It doesn't have to have anything to do with your studies or university, you can always bring your personal issues with you. No matter whether you have a specific concern or just need someone to talk to. Write us an email or come to one of our office hours.
You are welcome to contact us by email or simply drop by during our weekly consultation hours. If you send us an email, a team member will reply so that you can arrange a suitable appointment together. You can also write to us if, for example, you would like more information on a specific topic without the need for a personal meeting.
There are always 1-2 team members on site for the weekly consultation hour. You can choose whether you would like to talk to both or just one person. In the conversation itself, it is entirely up to you how much you want to share and also whether you would like any advice at all or whether you would just like to talk about something without any specific goal. Everything that is said will be treated confidentially and will not be made public. The only exception is if there is a possibility that you could directly harm yourself or other people or if you tell us that this is the case with another person. We would then call in external help.
Mutual cooperation at eye level is very important to us during the conversation. You yourself are always the professional for your issues. At the end of the meeting, you will decide together whether you would like to make another appointment or not.
