On this multi-day hike, a team of adventurous students fight their way through the greenest campus in Germany every year. Together, they cover around 60 km with an elevation gain of around 1500 m and sleep together in a tent. On the various stages of this expedition, the students are supported and accompanied by various experts from the Rhineland-Palatinate State Forestry Department and the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve. Together, the team gets to know each other better, but also the forest and the creatures that live in it!
So far, the Campus Expedition has been carried out twice with great success! Would you like to take part next time and cross the greenest campus in Germany with a team of persistent, resilient, team-oriented and curious students from Landau and Kaiserslautern? The next Campus Expedition will take place in 2025! Until then, take a look at our website and find out more about the previous expeditions and their challenges. We look forward to seeing you!
Background
The merger of the university campuses in Kaiserslautern and Landau made RPTU the greenest campus in Germany (perhaps even in Europe or the world). The campus now covers more than 100 km2 with around 6.5 million trees and a lot of almost untouched nature. The aim of the expedition is to create a link between the campuses. The Palatinate Forest will be discovered, explored and various facets of the forest illuminated during the first crossing of the campus at RPTU. The aim is to link the forest, nature and the environment with research, science and business. Experts from the Rhineland-Palatinate State Forests and the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve will be on hand to help.
