Campus Expedition

The time has come! The Campus Expedition will take place for the second time! This time, the adventurous students will hike from Landau to Kaiserslautern through the largest contiguous forest area in Europe. The expedition is planned in three exciting and challenging stages, which will be completed from 19-21 April 2024. A total of almost 60 km of forest and adventure await the participants! On these stages, we will be supported and accompanied by various experts from the Rhineland-Palatinate State Forests and the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve. Together we will get to know ourselves better, but also the forest and the creatures that live in it.

Would you like to join us and cross the greenest campus in Germany with a team of adventurous, persistent, resilient and team-oriented students from Landau and Kaiserslautern? The selection for the 2024 expedition team has already been made, but feel free to browse our website and find out more about the first crossing. Next year you will have the chance to be part of the Campus Expedition again.

Background

The merger of the Kaiserslautern and Landau university campuses has made RPTU the greenest campus in Germany (perhaps even Europe or the world). The campus now covers more than 100 km2 with about 6.5 million trees and still a lot of almost untouched nature. In an expedition, a connection between the campuses is to be created. During the first crossing of the RPTU campus, the Palatinate Forest will be discovered, explored and different facets of the forest will be illuminated. The idea is to link the forest, nature and the environment with research, science and business. Experts from the Rhineland-Palatinate State Forests and the Pfälzerwald-Nordvogesen Biosphere Reserve will be on hand to assist. The expedition is supported, among others, by the Research Institute for Forest Ecology and Forestry, the House of Sustainability, the Haardt Forestry Office, the Pfälzerwald Star Park project and the Student Astronomy Working Group Association.
