In keeping with the time of year and the chestnut season, this autumnal hike leads along the famous "Pälzer Keschdeweg" - an ideal tour to enjoy the golden October in the Southern Palatinate. The starting point is Albersweiler, where the route first takes us over the Kirchberg on the edge of the Haard towards Zollstock and offers us autumnal views of the Rhine plain and the Palatinate Forest. A particular highlight of the hike is the path past the ruins of Neukastel Castle, which rises picturesquely above the slopes of the Palatinate Forest. From there, the trail leads down through the vineyards towards Leinsweiler and Eschbach, two charming winegrowing villages nestled between vines and slopes. After passing through the vineyards, the trail plunges back into the tranquil forest. The last few kilometers lead through shady paths and autumn-colored chestnut forests towards Annweiler am Trifels, where the approximately 17-kilometer route ends.
The destination of the hike is the "Keschdefeschd" in Annweiler am Trifels, which is open until 6 pm. There, everything to do with chestnuts is celebrated and a varied culinary and cultural program is offered - the perfect end to an enjoyable autumn hike through the Palatinate.
