Hike to the Luitpold Tower

The hike to the Luitpoldturm on the Weißenberg in the Palatinate Forest is a challenging yet rewarding tour for nature lovers. We can look forward to a varied hike on this approximately 22-kilometre circular route with an elevation gain of around 500 meters, which takes us through the picturesque landscape of the Palatinate Forest. We start at the Gräfensteinhütte and return there, with the opportunity to round off the hike with a cool drink.
The Luitpoldturm was built between 1908 and 1909 on the 610-metre-high Weißenberg and is a striking sandstone observation tower. The tower not only offers a fascinating view of the Palatinate Forest, but also of large parts of the Rhine plain, as far as the Black Forest and even the Donnersberg. From the viewing platform, which is 28.5 meters above the ground, hikers can see over 400 different destinations in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Alsace with the help of orientation plaques. The hike takes us through this beautiful nature, which extends into dense forests as well as wide meadows and rolling hills.
The route challenges us, but also offers plenty of opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
So, lace up your hiking boots, pack a snack and let's experience a piece of Palatinate history together on this exciting tour!

Course program

We want to go on a sporty hike together through the beautiful nature of the Palatinate Forest. On the approximately 22-kilometre route, we will stop for a bite to eat at particularly idyllic places where we can fortify ourselves and enjoy the surroundings. The hike is not only about exercise, but also about an intensive experience of nature: we learn how to behave respectfully and sustainably in nature and how to perceive it mindfully. At the end of the tour, we round off the hike with a refreshing cold drink. The course combines physical challenge, nature experience and environmental awareness to create an unforgettable experience.
