Burg Hohenecken

A bit of history of our city and the nearby region may not be missed on our list, of course. Hohenecken Castle, with its more than 800 years of history, has a lot to tell. It was probably built by King Barbarossa at the beginning of the 12th century, following the imperial palace in Kaiserslautern.

The steep path up from the beautiful village center, leads past the pretty Rochus Chapel, through a small forest and rewards with a great view over the surrounding valleys. The old castle tower, is illuminated especially in the evening sun in a beautiful light and brings the typical red sandstone to shine. It is not without reason that the castle is a popular destination for warm summer evenings. It is easy to reach by public transport from the city center.

A real castle from the Middle Ages in the Kaiserslautern district of Hohenecken, our must-see number 10.

Highlights & Tips

Guided tours of the castle ruins can be booked in German and English on the Hohenecken Castle website and on request by e-mail.
