Of course, a piece of the history of our town and the surrounding area should not be missing from our list. With over 800 years of history, Hohenecken Castle has a lot to tell and almost as much to tell. Following on from the imperial palace in Kaiserslautern, it was probably built by King Barbarossa at the beginning of the 12th century.
The steep path up from the beautiful town center leads past the pretty Rochus Chapel through a small wooded area and rewards you with a fantastic view over the surrounding valleys. The old castle keep is illuminated in glorious light, especially in the evening sun, making the typical red sandstone glow. It is not without reason that the castle is a popular destination for warm summer evenings. It is easy to reach by public transport from the city center.
