Hohenecken Castle

Of course, a piece of the history of our town and the surrounding area should not be missing from our list. With over 800 years of history, Hohenecken Castle has a lot to tell and almost as much to tell. Following on from the imperial palace in Kaiserslautern, it was probably built by King Barbarossa at the beginning of the 12th century.

The steep path up from the beautiful village center leads past the pretty Rochus Chapel, through a small wooded area and rewards you with a great view over the surrounding valleys. The old castle keep is illuminated in a wonderful light, especially in the evening sun, making the typical red sandstone glow. It is not without reason that the castle is a popular destination for warm summer evenings. It is easy to reach by public transport from the city center.

Highlights & Tips

Guided tours of the castle ruins can be booked in German and English on the Hohenecken Castle website and on request by e-mail.
