Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt
Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt
Destination No. 3 on our Bucket List Pfalz is known far beyond the borders of the Palatinate. A must see for everyone who wants to experience a real Volksfest of the region in addition to the tick on the list. The Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt is in a league of its own. The largest wine festival in the world takes place in our direct neighborhood. On the 2nd and 3rd weekend in September, it attracts over 600,000 visitors to the small town of Bad Dürkheim. Large tents with live music and the dense crowds on the festival grounds are reminiscent of the world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich, only in Palatinate and with wonderfully refreshing wine spritzer instead of wheat beer. Numerous rides and regional delicacies make the festival a real experience.
The festival attracts visitors from all over the world to the small spa town of Bad Dürkheim. A fireworks display accompanied by music on the first weekend and the exhilarating closing fireworks on the last evening are highlights, as is a wine tasting in the Ferris wheel with a breathtaking view over the festival grounds and the surrounding countryside. There are even guided tours of the market that go into more detail about the culture and history of the festival. Those who want to really throw themselves into the fray have free admission to the large festival tents and can choose their location for the evening according to their own musical taste.
